The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Kingdom of the Netherlands organized a commemorative evening on September 27 – Remembrance Day.
The event was attended by representatives of the diplomatic corps, the Dutch public, as well as members of the Azerbaijani and Turkish communities in the country.
The event began with the playing of the National Anthem of Azerbaijan, followed by a moment of silence in honour of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Motherland.
In his speech, Azerbaijani Ambassador to the Netherlands, Mammad Ahmadzada, highlighted the special place of Remembrance Day in the modern history of the Azerbaijani people. He noted that this significant day embodies deep respect for the eternal memory of the martyrs and loyalty to the heroic legacy of the nation. Speaking about the grave consequences of Armenia’s 30-year-long military aggression, the ambassador emphasized that Azerbaijan never accepted the occupation. Under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, all political, diplomatic, economic, and military resources were mobilized to bring victory closer.
He underlined that during the 44-day Patriotic War, the courageous Azerbaijani Army, under the command of the Victorious Commander-in-Chief, united around an “iron fist” symbolizing the will and unity of the people, and wrote a glorious history of victory—an embodiment of national pride, determination, and resilience. The ambassador further stated that as a result of local anti-terror measures carried out in September 2023, Azerbaijan fully ensured its sovereignty, restored international law and historical justice, and established a new reality in the region. Against the backdrop of these historic achievements, 2025 was declared the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” in Azerbaijan.
The diplomat also provided information about the outcomes of the Washington Summit, the ongoing restoration and reconstruction work in the liberated territories, and the successful implementation of the “Great Return” policy. Concluding his speech, he expressed boundless gratitude to the martyrs, honored their sacred memory, and wished veterans a speedy recovery.
Speaking at the event, Elsever Mammadov, coordinator of the Netherlands - Belgium Azerbaijanis Coordination Council, stressed that the heroism of all martyrs who gave their lives for the freedom and territorial integrity of the Motherland will forever live in the hearts of every Azerbaijani. He emphasized that the valor demonstrated by the Azerbaijani Army under the leadership of President and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev during this sacred struggle is a glorious chapter in the nation’s history. He added that Azerbaijanis living in Europe have always stood with their state and people in the struggle for truth and justice, worked tirelessly to make their voice heard, and consistently honored the memory of the martyrs with deep respect.
The event concluded with video clips dedicated to Remembrance Day, featuring the reflections of President Ilham Aliyev, highlights of the 44-day Patriotic War, and tributes to the martyrs. An artistic and musical program, performed live by Azerbaijani and Turkish musicians living in the Netherlands and featuring works by Azerbaijani, Turkish, and world composers, further enriched the ceremony and left an unforgettable impression on the participants.
