First Azerbaijan–Netherlands consular affairs meeting held in The Hague
On 22 June, the first meeting between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the field of consular affairs was held in The Hague.
During the meeting, a number of issues of mutual interest were discussed, including the current state of, and prospects for, cooperation in consular affairs, visa policy, labour, internal affairs, justice, and the expansion of cooperation in the field of legal assistance.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Emil Safarov, Head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, while the Dutch delegation was led by Jeroen Roodenburg, Head of the Department for Consular and Visa Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
During the negotiations, the parties reached an agreement on establishing a bilateral cooperation mechanism aimed at further developing relations in the consular field.
At the same time, during a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Justice and Security of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, discussions were held on migration, readmission, and other related areas, and an exchange of experience took place between the two sides.
On 23 June, the delegation held meetings with the heads of offices of the International Air Transport Association and the International Organization for Migration in the Netherlands.
On 24 June, the delegation was received by Christophe Bernasconi, Secretary-General of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH). During the meeting, the Azerbaijani delegation was informed about the organisation’s activities, and views were exchanged on the implementation of international conventions to which Azerbaijan is a party, as well as on cooperation between the organisation and Azerbaijan.
